Koh Talu

Bangkok, Thailand – December, 2011

Koh Talu located in Bang Saphan Noi District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province is one of the most popular tourist attraction area where visitors can witness the natural wonder of a large tunnel pierced through a red cliff so they can see the other scenic view of the island. Koh Talu is also located in the area of “Fishery Resources Management Project by Bang Saphan Community” a 12-year project to safeguard marine lives by prohibiting fishing in mating season.

On the west of the island facing the mainland, lies a 2.5 kilometer beautiful white beach and green coconut trees covering one third of the island’s 1,000 rai land. There is also a spectacular beach call “Aou Kruad” where beaches are covered with thousands of small pebbles with coral reef attraction spot for snorkel diving. Tian beach is the longest beach of Koh Talu where coral reef fossils can be found.

As a Coral Reef Reservation Area, Koh Talu marine ecosystem is rich with various marine lives and is known as the most beautiful coral reef spot in Thai Bay. Due to its prosperous natural eco system, it was reported that there are sea turtles laying eggs ashore in Koh Talu area for 11 times in 2011 after 10 years absence of such behavior around southern part of Thailand’s central region. The phenomenon has brought about Koh Talu Sea Turtle Nursery Center.

Today, Koh Talu, is part of HRH Sirindhorn’s royal project to preserve invaluable floral and fauna. As a coral reef preservation area for 10 year, Koh Talu community has worked with Marine Science & Preservation Foundation in Sataheep district to be a part of "Vinythai Cooperation to Plant 80,000 Branches of Coral in honor of His Majesty the King".

In koh Talu pier areas, there are several projects such as Crab Banks and local fisheries community projects under HRH Orasadhirach where tourist can shop fresh sea food to support local community.
